Thailand International Development Agency (TICA)’s Support for Lao PDR to Strengthen Preparedness and Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic

In response to the rapid spread of COVID-19 Pandemic in the Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, of Thailand, through Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), and in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health, has provided support to the Lao PDR in (1) provision of necessary medical equipment, namely Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for laboratory use and patient care, RT-PCR Machines, Mobile Laboratory Units and Negative/Positive Pressure Isolation Rooms for Bokeo hospital and Sainyabuli hospital and (2) capacity building for Lao PDR’s medical personnel in treating  COVID-19 patients, through under ‘Medical Consultation’ between the sister cities : Ubon Ratchathani-Champasak and Mukdahan-Savannakhet.

In addition, on 13 May 2021, Mrs. Ureerat Chareontoh, Director-General of TICA received 100,000 surgical masks and 1,000 gallons of alcohol gel from Mr. Chairoj Tiwatmuncharoen Senior Vice President of CP All Plc and Dr. Netithorn Praditsarn, Executive Assistant to CEO and Senior Vice President, Global Partnership for Sustainability and Communications, Charoen Pokphand Group Co., Ltd, which will be delivered to the Royal Thai Embassy in Vientiane to hand over to the Government of Lao PDR in due course. This activity is part of TICA’s partnership with private sector in development cooperation.
