Thailand sent delegates to monitor and evaluate project implemented under Thailand-Bhutan-UNFPA Trilateral Cooperation on public health

          During 13th – 23rd July, 2014, Ms. Angsana Sihapitak, Deputy Director-General of TICA, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thailand, headed a Thai delegation comprising representatives from Praboromarajchanok Institute for Health Workforce Development, Boromarajonani College of Nursing Udon Thani, Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Bangkok, UNFPA for Thailand, and Thai PBS reporters to Bhutan to monitor and evaluate project implemented under the Thailand-Bhutan-UNFPA Trilateral Cooperation on public health and to discuss on future activities.
          During this visit, the delegation met and had a discussion with executives of Bhutanese agencies concerned including Mr.Dasho Nima Wangdi, Secretary of Health, Dr.Dorji Wangchuk, Director General of Department of Public Health, Mr.Yeshey Dorji, Deputy Resident Representative, UNFPA Bhutan, Mr.Karma Tshiteem, RCSC Chairman Commissioner, Dr. Chencho Dorjee, Dean of Faculty of Nursing and Public Health, Aum Chimi Wangmo, Executive Director of RENEW. In addition, the delegation observed Thai participants of the training course on mother and child at Basic Health Unit (BHU) in Ura and Tang, Bumthang District, northern part of Bhutan, and interviewed eight health officials about the consistency of course content and practical use of knowledge, the evaluation of evident outcomes, as well as the opinion of local staff and executives for course content development which will be conducted in the future.
           According to this mission, the three parties (Thailand, Bhutan, and UNFPA) agreed that when the project terminated in 2015, the second phase of cooperation should focus on building the capacity of institution in the production of medical personnel. UNFPA will cooperate with Ministry of Public Health of Bhutan in implementing the project and TICA and Praboromarajchanok Institute will support experts and courses organization. Furthermore, details of the implementation approach will be discussed later. For the last activity of this year, it will be the training course on Neonatal Care and Advanced Midwifery for 20-22 health officials of Bhutan in rural areas. 
          This trilateral project is a pilot of cooperation in sharing knowledge and experience between developing countries or the so-called South-South Cooperation (SCC), which is useful to exchange experiences and learn from each other, as well as to promote the development of human resources and related institutes to contribute to good relationship at government, organization, and people levels. The achievement of the project will enhance Thailand's image in the International arena and will build confidence in the potential of Thailand as a whole.
