On 22 June 2021, H.E. Mr. Christian Rehren Bargetto, Ambassador of Chile to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on Mrs. Ureerat Chareontoh, Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), to bid farewell at the end of his tenure.

Ambassador of Chile expressed his gratitude, and on behalf of the Agencia Chilena de Cooperacion International para el Desarrollo – AGCID, addressed his satisfaction of the close relationship on the development cooperation between two countries through the bilateral, trilateral, and mutilateral modalities. In addition, both sides have already agreed to the current Framework of Development Cooperation Programme for 2019-2021 and jointly implement numbers of development projects in various areas including agricultural sector (quinoa plant development), financial and investment sector, and trade and investment sector.  Director-General of TICA also expressed her appreciation towards the Ambassador of Chile’s support and participation in the recent Chile-Thailand International Workshop on Trade Policy for ASEAN Members, which has been successfully organised through an online webinar.  

Both sides exchanged their views on the potential sectors, especially on education, fisheries, public health, agriculture, which should be included in the next Framework of Development Cooperation Programme for the subsequent 2022-2024 period. In addition, both sides wished to exchange Thailand’s and Chile’s expertise on the issues related to the current situation such as COVID-19 and the economic recovery after COVID-19. Thai side also attached an importance to security promotion in four areas (4s) namely Public Health Security, Food Security, Job Security and Energy and Environmental Security, as well as to Thailand’s natonal development policy on the Bio-Circular-Green Economy and the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy.

The Ambassador of Chile ensured Chile’s support for Thailand as a host of the Asia- Pacific Economic Cooperation or APEC next year.  Both sides also looked forward to expanding development cooperation in trilateral forms especially under the framework of Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy or ACMECS for   this regional prosperity, and a celebration of the 60th year of Thailand and Chile Diplomatic Relation in 2022.
