During 6-8 December 2023, Mrs. Arunee Hiam, Deputy Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), attended Mekong Institute (MI) Steering Committee Meeting 2/2023 and MI Council Meeting 2/2023 under the chairmanship of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

The Meeting acknowledged MI’s overall performance and achievements in various areas, including the implementation of MI Strategic Plan 2021-2025 and its 2023 annual work plan. Until October 2023, MI has implemented 31 projects, and continued its collaboration with various partners in the Mekong Sub-region under regional frameworks such as Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) and Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC). In addition, MI is in the process of drafting MoU to establish ACMECS Interim Secretariat (AIS) at the Mekong Cooperation Unit, under Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.

On this occasion, Deputy Director-General of TICA emphasized the importance of active participation of member countries which will promote the work of MI and suggested MI to focus more on research and development and strengthening development partnerships in the region.
