Thailand and Australia jointly drive development partnership through the 1st Australia–Thailand Development Dialogue

On 24-25 June 2026, Mr. Chulavat Narinthrangura, Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), participated in the 1st Australia–Thailand Development Dialogue in Canberra, Australia, together with Ms. Kate Smith, Acting Director-General for Southeast Asia Regional and Mainland Division, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia. Both sides exchanged views on policies, directions, and approaches to driving concrete development cooperation between Thailand and Australia.
The Australia–Thailand Development Dialogue is a key mechanism for enhancing development cooperation between the two countries and building on trilateral cooperation to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the Mekong Sub-region and other regions of mutual interest.
On this occasion, the Director-General of TICA met with Dr. Nick Austin, Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), to discuss ways to promote trilateral cooperation in agriculture and food security, and water and air quality management, and also met with Ms. Roslyn Dundas, Director of Policy and Advocacy,at the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID), to exchange best practices in the locally led development partnership approach, which Thailand can apply in its future operations.
In addition, discussions were held with Mr. Curtis Leonard Tu’ihalangingie, Chargé d'affaires of the Kingdom of Tonga to Australia, on the cooperation in medical personnel development and cocoa cultivation development in Tonga.
