On 8 June 2022, Mrs. Ureerat Chareontoh, Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) led TICA delegation to visit United Nation Conference Centre (UNCC) in Bangkok. The Director-General and delegation were welcomed by Mr. Adnan H. Aliani, Director, Strategy and Programme Management Division, ESCAP and Mr. Denis Nkala, Regional Coordinator, UNOSSC Regional Office for Asia and Pacific.

 

Thailand, through TICA, ESCAP, and UNOSSC are co-hosts of the Global South-South Development Expo 2022 (GSSD Expo 2022) to be held during 12-14 September 2022. The co-hosts discussed various aspects of the GSSD Expo 2022 preparations, particularly logistical arrangements and substantive issues with a view to organizing the said successful global event. After the discussion, ESCAP showed TICA delegation around UNCC and elaborated furthur on various facilities to be provided for GSSD Expo 2022.

 

On this occasion, the Director-General visited the Regional Office of the UN Office for South-South Cooperation as invited by UNOSSC Regional Coordinator. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and UNOSSC have maintained close collaboration, particularly the secondment programme. Currently, Mr. Maes Suwantra, Counsellor, has been seconded as Advocacy Advisor at UNOSSC Regional Office for one year and will complete his term in December 2022. This continued support demonstates Thailand’s strong role in furthur strengthening partnership with the UN and its specialized agencies through South-South and triangular cooperation towards the attainment of SDGs.
