Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) Participated in the Online Launching Ceremony of New Website of the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to Thailand

On 6 December 2023, Mrs. Ureerat Chareontoh, Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), participated in the online launching ceremony of New Website of the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to Thailand hosted by the Embassy, following the invitation by H.E. Mrs. C.A. Chaminda I. Colonne, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand. In this occasion, H.E. Ms. Busadee Santipitaks, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, presided over the ceremony and delivered the launching remarks of the new website.

In her introductory remarks of the new website, the Ambassador highlighted its objective to tighten the bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand, Lao PDR, and Cambodia which are in the Embassy’s jurisdiction, as well as to publicize the Embassy’s participation in meetings and activities organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), which is among the Embassy’s missions. The website will publish news and cooperation activities between Sri Lanka and Thailand, which Her Excellency hopes that it will help to expand more of existing cooperation in various areas, including Buddhism, economy, trade, investment, and tourism. The website will also display useful information such as Sri Lanka’s bilateral agreements, agricultural and handicraft products, tourist attractions, and development cooperation including scholarships and training courses provided by Thailand. Moreover, the website is linked to all agencies related to Thailand-Sri Lanka relation and cooperation. The Ambassador then invited the Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs to deliver the launching remarks, followed by messages from present executives of agencies connected to the website, for instance, National Office of Buddhism, Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand, Board of Investment of Thailand, Asian Institute of Technology, including Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA).

In her remarks, the Director-General of TICA highlighted the successes of development cooperation between Thailand and Sri Lanka, such as the Sustainable Community Development Model based on the Application of Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP) Project in three villages namely Deltota Pahalagama, Laksha Utana, and Wathupola, implemented via trainings, knowledge exchange, and capacity building for community learning centers and aimed at improving well-being of the villagers and surrounding communities. Thailand and Sri Lanka are drafting a 2024-2025 implementation plan, which covers development cooperation in mutually beneficial sectors, namely community development, agriculture and fishery, animal welfare, and human resource development. The Director-General concluded by looking forward to the successful cooperation between two countries in implementing the plan in the near future.
