Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency welcomed Ambassador of the Republic of Chile to the Kingdom of Thailand

On 18th January 2024, Mrs. Ureerat Chareontoh, Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) welcomed H.E. Mr. Patricio Powell Osorio, Ambassador of the Republic of Chile to the Kingdom of Thailand on the occasion of his assumption of duty.  Ms. Chidchanok Malayawong, Director of Development Promotion and Coordination Division and relevant Embassy and TICA officials were also present at the meeting at the Reception room, TICA Office.

Ambassador of the Republic of Chile was pleased with a dynamic cooperation following the results of the 6th Thailand-Chile Political Consultations (PC) meeting in October 2022 in Thailand, which included development cooperation.  Chile will host the next PC meeting in August this year.

Both sides welcomed the successful implementation of the 3-year Development Cooperation Programme between Thailand and Chile during 2019 – 2021, covering three sectors namely Agriculture, Strategic and Financial Intelligence, and Trade and Investment. The Workshop on Chilean Quinoa in Thailand for ASEAN Members was highlighted. Experts from the Royal Project Foundation participating this project were able to apply the knowledge gained from the Workshop, then to develop and register Thailand’s four quinoa variants including yellow, black, and two red variants.

On this occasion, both sides expressed intention to continue Thailand-Chile cooperation through the formulation of the next Development Cooperation Programme which will build upon the current programme’ successful sectors such as, Trade and Investment and Agriculture as well as expand into new areas such as, clean energy and climate change. Thailand and Chile are also ready to pursue South-South and Triangular Cooperation to share knowledge with other countries including ASEAN Members, Timor-Leste, and Pacific Island countries.

The Director-General of TICA also expressed Thailand’s readiness to host the the 2nd Thailand-Chile Technical Cooperation Programmes (TPTCP) Meeting in the 4th quarter of 2024, after the PC in August.  This will provide an opportunity for TICA and Agencia Chilena de Cooperacion International para el Desarrollo (AGCID) to review the projects under the previous programme and commence the implementation of the new programme.
