Mrs. Ureerat Chareontoh, Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), attends the 3rd High-Level Meeting (HLM) of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Co-operation (GPEDC). The HLM of the GPEDC or 2022 Effective Development Co-operation Summit is co-hosted by the Swiss Confederation through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the Global Partnership for Effective Development Co-operation (the Global Partnership) in Geneva, Switzerland, during 12-14 December 2022. H.E. Mrs. Suphatra Srimaitreephithak, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the United Nations in Geneva, is also in attendance.
H.E. Mr. Ignazio Cassis, President of the Swiss Confederation, opened the Summit on 12 December 2022 featuring high-level dialogue on “Half-Time of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: Effective Development Co-operation Needed More Than Ever to Deliver”.
In his remarks, the President underpined the significance of doubling efforts and commitment to promoting and supporting development cooperation through innovative mechanisms, new thinking, and practical implementation at the national, regional, and global levels. He further reiterated that actions, which “speak louder than words” and using “future to build present” would help accelerate the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
During the Summit, the Director-General of TICA and the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand held a corridor meeting with H.E. Mr. Antonio Freitas, Vice Minister of Finance of Timor-Leste. Both sides discussed various programmes development cooperation between Thailand and Timor-Leste.
In addition, the Director-General Ureerat is invited as a panelist in the Plenary Session 8 under the topic “Creating Opportunities to Deliver Effective South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SS&TrC) at Country Level” on 14 December 2022 to share Thailand’s knowledge, experiences, and best practices on international development cooperation, especially through SS&TrC.
