On 9 December 2025, Mr Chulvat Narinthrangura, Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), attended the Mekong Institute (MI) Council Meeting 2/2025 on behalf of an MI Council of Thailand, in Pakse, together with another five member countries including Cambodia, China (Yunnan), Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Vietnam. Representatives from the Development Partners (DPs) namely New Zealand and ADB also participated.

The meeting reviewed MI work performance in 2025, progress report during MI Strategic Plan 2021-2025, and discussed several key issues such as the draft of new MI Strategic Plan 2026 – 2030, open session for other DPs as advisors to MI Council meeting, and the selection of a new MI Executive Director. Thailand was invited to join in the selection committee.

On this occasion, the Director-General of TICA reaffirmed Thailand’s support to an implementation of the new MI Strategic Plan, co-organizing the Mekong Forum 2026 and the 30th Anniversary Commemoration in 2026 in Bangkok. He reiterated MI’s important role in promoting cooperation, capacity building and sustainable development in the Greater Mekong Subregion.
