On 31 July 2024, H.E. Mr. Alem Tsehaye Woldemariam, Ambassador of the State of Eritrea to Thailand with residence in New Delhi, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Wattanawit Gajaseni, Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), at Reception Room, TICA. Ms. Chidchanok Malayawong, Director of the Development Promotion and Coordination Division and officials from Human Resources Development Cooperation Division were also present at the meeting.

On this occasion, both sides discussed bilateral relations and development cooperation, exploring ways to enhance their collaboration in the sectors of mutual interest.  The Director-General emphasized Thailand's changing role from a recipient country to an emerging donor country and   a development partner with traditional donors or new emerging donors to provide technical assistance to other developing countries in bilateral and trilateral frameworks by conducting activities in various forms such as fellowships provision under the Annual International Training Course (AITC) and the Thailand International Postgraduate Programme (TIPP).  The Ambassador highlighted several key sectors that Thailand has a high potential in sharing knowledge and expertise including human resources development through short-term training and postgraduate scholarships, medical tourism, and technology transfer in fishery and agriculture, noting Eritrea’s long coastline and rich marine resources as significant assets in this collaboration.
