On 7 June 2022, Mrs. Arunee Hiam, Director of Development Promotion and Coordination Division, Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), attended the 3rd Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) meeting of the Project on Capacity Improvement for Road Traffic Safety Institution and Implementation in the Kingdom of Thailand virtually. Mr. Chayatham Promsorn, Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Transport, and Mr. TANAKA Hiroo, Director General Infrastructure Management Department, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), were also presented in the meeting.

The Project on Capacity Improvement for Road Traffic Safety Institution and Implementation in the Kingdom of Thailand, a 4-year project of which the period of implementation is between 2021 – 2024, is a collaboration between the Ministry of Transport, JICA, and TICA. The Project aims to mitigate loss caused by the accidents by leveraging the road safety. So far, since the initial of the project, there has been 3 JCC meetings.

The meeting updated the outcome of the project during the first year of operation of 4 working groups from 4 departments under the Ministry of Transport, namely 1) Transportation Safety Operation Center 2) Department of Highways 3) Department of Rural Roads and 4) Department of Land Transport. They also acknowledged the plan of operations for the next year, covering various activities, from site survey for accident data analysis (Near-Miss), comprehensive road safety programmes and new technologies implementation to decrease accidental cases, as well as transport structural measures, such as driving license issuing improvement. Collaborating with JICA Expert Team and relevant local agencies, Nakhon Ratchasima and Prachin Buri, provinces with a large number of high risk spots and accidental records, are among pilot schemes of the project.
