During 12-13 October 2023, Mrs. Ureerat Chareontoh, Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) attended the 7th International Meeting on Triangular Co-operation co-organized by Camões - Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Lisbon, Portugal.
Upon the invitation by the hosts, the Director-General delivered remarks during the fourth session of the meeting titled “Financing for Triangular Cooperation”. She shared Thailand’s best practices and experiences in financing for development cooperation especially under the current situation where countries faced limited resources. She also highlighted the 3Ps approach that Thailand took in managing development cooperation namely 1) Prioritization 2) Practicality and 3) Partnerships. It is the latter that Thailand placed high importance and continued engaging with partners around the world through both South-South and Triangular cooperation.
The 3Ps approach was well received by the meeting. It encouraged the participants to share their views on other P- approaches that would further advance Triangular cooperation such as putting focus on “People”, “Principle” of trust and equality, “Potential” of Triangular cooperation, and how Triangular cooperation could play as a bridge between countries which was very important under current international “Political”situations.
The International Meeting on Triangular Co-operation provided opportunities to representatives from public sector, international organizations, academia and civil society to exchange views and ideas on how to promote Triangular cooperation. In addition to the discussion on financing for Triangular cooperation, the meeting also discussed the recently launched report titled “Global Perspectives on Triangular Cooperation” and exchanged ideas on how to promote Triangular cooperation for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and for the sustainable future that we all hope for.
