On October 31, 2024, Mr. Paisarn Rupanichkij, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, chaired the Meeting on Thai – Myanmar Cross-border Public Health Development cooperation. The participants of the meeting included Mrs. Pimvadee Sovarattanapong, Deputy Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency, acting Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency, Ms. Witida Siwakua, ​​​Development Cooperation Officer, Senior Professional Level, acting Director of International Development Cooperation Division, Mr. Komkrich Chongbunwatana, Director of East Asia Division 2, Department of East Asia, along with representatives from Ministry of Public Health, namely, the Department of Disease Control, Department of Medical Sciences, Chiang Rai, Tak, Kanchanaburi and Ranong Provincial Public Health Offices, and the office disease prevention and control district 1 Chiang Mai, district 2 Phitsanulok, district 5 Ratchaburi and district 11 Nakhon Si Thammarat, at the Tailor Hall Meeting Room, 9th Floor, De Prime Hotel, Rangnam, Bangkok.

The purpose of the meeting was to set a forum for exchanges of information and discussions on ways to work together between government agencies to revive Thai-Myanman development cooperation on current cross-border health issues. The meeting agreed on the importance of prioritising appropriate health development projects that focus on basic foundation and knowledge building for local communities to prevent the spread of communicable diseases that could pose a threat to the wider community such as malaria and tuberculosis. The participants also recognised the importance of enhancing capacity-building to the local officers and continue the training activity for Migrant Health Volunteers (MHVs) in order to establish an outreach network and maintain the dynamics of border public health missions, as well as to readily deal with the risks of epidemics and emerging disease in the area for the benefit of the people of both countries.

TICA promotes health cooperation project implementation between Thailand and Myanmar. Border health projects cover areas from Chiang Rai to Ranong province.
