On 9 February 2026, Ms. Chachsaran Lertkiattiwong, Director of the International Development Cooperation Division, Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), delivered remarks at the opening ceremony of the training course entitled “Capacity Building in Nursing Management and Quality Improvement for Head Nurses (Maternal and Child Nursing)” under the Improvement of Hospital Nursing Management Project. The project is part of the three-year Thailand-Lao PDR Development Cooperation Plan and the training course as carried out at the Department of Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Ministry of Health of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR).
The training course “Capacity Building in Nursing Management and Quality Improvement for Head Nurses (Maternal and Child Nursing)”, also referred to as Training of Trainers Level B (ToT B), was conducted from 9 February to 6 March 2026 and aimed to enhance the quality of nursing services in hospitals across the Lao PDR and to strengthen human resources and leadership capacity in nursing management. The course focuses on strengthening the competencies of head nurses in management and quality improvement of nursing services, thereby contributing to the implementation of the Lao PDR’s “5 Good, 1 Satisfaction” policy. A total of 46 participants from hospitals in Vientiane Capital and 17 provinces across the Lao PDR are participating in the programme, which is implemented by Udon Thani Nursing College in collaboration with the Department of Healthcare and Rehabilitation of the Lao PDR.
This training builds upon the previous course entitled “Strengthening Administrative Capacity in Nursing Management for Nursing Leaders” (Training of Trainers Level A - ToT A), which aimed to develop nursing leadership. Through that course, Udon Thani Nursing College laid the foundation for strengthening knowledge in nursing administration and academic quality improvement, as well as for the development of the nursing workforce structure, with the participation of senior executives from the Department of Healthcare and Rehabilitation, the Department of Personnel Organization, and the Faculty of Nursing, University of Health Sciences of the Lao PDR. The third training course will follow as the next phase to develop operational-level nurses (ToT Level C) and to produce a standardized nursing manual for nationwide use across hospitals in the Lao PDR.
