The Ministry of Foreign Affairs led the group of SIDS Representatives on a 3-day study tour of various fields, including

(1) vocational training for female prisoners at the Central Women’s Correctional Institution

(2) waste reprocessing and upcycling, with the participation from the community, private sector, government sector, academic sector, and international organizations at Wat Chak Daeng

(3) Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and equality of access to health care services for migrants

(4) restoration and conservation of natural resources and the environment, including energy conservation at the Sirindhorn International Environmental Park

(5) promotion of fisheries careers for interested individuals at the Royal Sea Farming And Aquaculture Demonstration Project Under The Initiatives Of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother and

(6) wastewater and solid waste treatment through environmentally and ecologically sustainable methods at the Laem Pak Bia Environmental Research and Development Project. Besides, the Ministry led the SIDS representatives to experience arts, culture and visit outstanding tourist attractions such as Wat Pho, Wat Arun, and Mahanakhon skywalk observation.

In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a reception to campaign for Thailand’s HRC candidature for term 2025-2027. The reception opened with welcome remarks made by Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, former President of the HRC.

Furthermore, the Ministry also held the Dinner Talk and invited Dr. Suvit Maesincee, former Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation and Chairman of the Youth In Charge Platform, to be a keynote speaker on “Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) economic model and Thailand’s Approach to Sustainability”.

After the study tour, Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), organized a workshop on “Exploring Potential Development Cooperation Areas between Thailand and SIDS/participating Member States”. Each Permanent Representative expressed their interest in development cooperation with Thailand in various areas, such as agriculture, environment, the application of the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP) and the BCG economy model. Later, in the afternoon, the Department of International Organizations organized a roundtable discussion on “the Impacts of Climate Change and Natural Disasters on Human Rights: Lessons Learnt and Way Forward”.

On the same day, the SIDS Ambassadors and Representatives to the United Nations in New York paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Russ Jalichandra, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs. After the courtesy call, the Vice Minister hosted a luncheon in honor of them.
