On June 11, 2024, Mrs. Arunee Hiam, Deputy Director-General of the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), attended the Emerging Development Partners’ (EDP) Meeting on the topic “Exploring Synergies and Potential Collaboration”. The meeting was co-hosted by the Government of Indonesia and Türkiye in Bali, Republic of Indonesia. The official from TICA was also in attendance.

Deputy Director-General of TICA was invited to be a panelist in Plenary Session 1 under  the theme of “Repositioning Emerging Development Partners’ Roles in Multilateral Fora".   The Deputy Director-General shared knowledge, experiences, and best practices in Thailand’s development cooperation efforts under triangular cooperation with various partners, particularly the United Nations, to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These efforts include (1) The Global Health Diplomacy Training with WHO and the Ministry of Public Health (2) Projects on maternal and child health and adolescent pregnancy prevention with UNFPA in Timor-Leste, and (3) ARISE Plus Thailand: Trilateral Cooperation on Sharing Knowledge and Best Practices in Organic Agriculture with ASEAN Member States, focusing on sharing organic agriculture knowledge and practices in collaboration with ITC and the National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards.

In addition, the Deputy Director-General of TICA emphasized the importance of enhancing the role of the Global South in both quantity and quality of development efforts across various sectors, particularly through technical cooperation and technology transfer provided to developing countries. She reiterated Thailand's commitment to strengthening partnerships for sustainable development among Global South countries, as South-South and triangular cooperation are effective tools for sustainable development cooperation. However, South-South cooperation cannot replace North-South cooperation but rather serves as a crucial foundation to promote and support efficient and sustainable cooperation in the future.
