On 6 October 2023, Mrs. Ureerat Chareontoh, Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), met with Shri P. Kumaran, OSD (ER&DPA), to discuss the strengthening of Thai-Indian development cooperation at the Development Partnership Administration (DPA), Ministry of External Affairs, in New Delhi, Republic of India.
Director-General Ureerat suggested that Thailand and India expand development cooperation in human resource development, bilaterally and trilaterally. She proposed that DPA organize country-specific training courses for Thailand. TICA and DPA may jointly develop a capacity-building and human resource development programme for third countries in the Mekong Sub-region and South Asia. The trilateral initiative can be undertaken under ACMECS where TICA is Thailand’s coordinator in the 3rd Pillar (Smart and Sustainable ACMECS) of ACMECS Master Plan. Shri P. Kumaran was positive about the ideas because DPA has also undertaken these modalities of cooperation with some other countries.
Currently, the Indian government provides training awards under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme to Thailand. Every year, the Programme offers more than 100 training courses in diverse fields and topics.
