On 6 December 2023, Mrs. Ureerat Chareontoh, Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), paid a courtesy call on Mr. Chang Won-Sam, President of Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), and discussed different areas of Thailand – South Korea development cooperation initiatives.
In this occasion, both sides welcomed the success of the conclusion of the 4th Action Plan in July 2023, which reflects immense progress in the overall Thai – Korean development cooperation. Examples of mutually beneficial cooperation areas under the 4th Action Plan include fisheries, water resource management, science, technology and innovation, and human resource development. On this note, Thailand expressed its readiness to closely cooperate with KOICA to facilitate the successful and timely implementation of the 4th Action Plan.
Both sides also exhanged views on future models of development cooperation between TICA and KOICA, particularly in areas where Thailand can learn from South Korea’s previous successes in the areas of modern technology, health, environment, creative economy and culture. Emphasis is also placed on KOICA’s implementation of the 5-year co-forming project and the 3-year fellowship programme. Not only will this initative enable the development of human resources in Thailand, it will also improve of the quality of life for the people in CLMV region as a whole.
