On 23 May 2023, Mrs. Ureerat Chareontoh, Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), together with Mr. Enrique O´Farril, Executive Director of the Chilean International Cooperation Agency for Development (AGCID), Mr. Sebastian Gomez Fiedler, Director-General for Bilateral Economic Affairs as a representative from Undersecretariat of International Economic Affairs of the Republic of Chile (SUBREI), and Mr. Suriyan Vichitlekarn, Executive Director, Mekong Institute (MI), gave an opening remarks for the Webinar on the “Chile – Thailand International Workshop on Trade Negotiation for ASEAN Members”.
 
The Chile – Thailand International Workshop on Trade Negotiation for ASEAN Members is a collaborating activity between TICA, AGCID, and SUBREI through the Mekong Institute (MI) as an activity’s implementing agency. The Workshop aims to share knowledge and practical experience from Chile’s perspectives in international trade negotiations to trade officials from ASEAN member countries and trade officers from other countries who are interested to participate in the workshop. This workshop is comprised 5 sub-topics, namely
(1) Overview of the World Trade System
(2) ASEAN Trade Tools
(3) Negotiation Framework
(4) Preparation for Negotiation and
(5) The Art of Trade Negotiation through Simulation Exercise,
and the online training period is divided into three parts between (1) 23 – 25 May 2023 (2) 30 May – 1 June 2023, and (3) 6 – 7 June 2023.
 
This Webinar has 37 participants from ASEAN member countries (Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Lao PDR, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Philippines) and other countries (India) and offers an opportunity for participants to share updates and perspectives on the recent developments in economic integration and key trends in trade negotiations in Latin America and the ASEAN region. Moreover, this Workshop continues from the success of the previous training “Chile – Thailand International Workshop on Trade Policy for ASEAN Members” which was held in April 2021. Both of workshops are implemented under the 3-year Development Cooperation Program between Thailand and Chile during the years of 2019 to 2021.
