On 28 September 2023, H.E. Mr. Srettha Thavisin, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, attended the Handover Ceremony of the Transit and Reception Centre for Victims of Trafficking and Other Vulnerable Groups in Banteay Meanchey Province (TRC) to Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, during his official visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia.

The construction of the TRC is under development cooperation project implemented by Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in coordination with the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security. This Project is an outcome of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the Establishment of Transit and Reception Centre for Victims of Trafficking and Other Vulnerable Groups in Banteay Meanchey Province, signed during the 10th Meeting of the Thailand – Cambodia Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JC) on 26 August 2016.

The TRC will serve as a transit shelter for victims of human trafficking as well as to rehabilitate and reintegrate them back into the society through the provision of skills and vocational trainings. Main workplans of this Centre include the construction and provision of necessary infrastructure; institutional development through capacity building for staffs and trainers, and procurement of equipment necessary for the function of the Centre and vocational training.

As of now, TICA is on the process of delivering the equipment for the Centre and organising the Handover Ceremony of the equipment of the TRC to ensure that the Centre is operational at the earliest occasion.
