On 26 January 2024, Mr. HATAEDA Mikio, Senior Vice President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) together with Mr. NASU Takenori, Director of Southeast Asia Division 4, JICA, and Ms. KITAGAWA Yuki, Senior Representative, JICA, Thailand Office, had a meeting with Mr. Wattanawit Gajaseni, Deputy Director-General, Acting Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA). Also presented at the meeting were Ms. Chidchanok Malayawong, Director of Development Promotion and Coordination Division, and staff from both TICA and JICA.
Both sides discussed the current development cooperation between Thailand and Japan and were glad to see the progress in the said cooperation as this year marks the 70th anniversary of the development cooperation between the two countries. Both sides agreed to expand bilateral cooperation to promote trilateral cooperation in the region. Both sides agreed to explore new areas and forms of cooperation while joint volunteer programme in the third country, third country training programme in Thailand and in Japan, and along Thailand's border with neighboring countries, such as providing public health services, migrant workers, and anti-human trafficking, were suggested.
Senior Vice President commended TICA’s active role especially in sharing best practices of development cooperation projects among development partners from other countries as witnessed in the 5th Asia-Pacific Directors General Forum for South-South and Triangular Cooperation co-hosted by TICA and UNESCAP in November 2023.
