On 19 February 2024, Mrs. Arunee Hiam, the Deputy Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), delivered a speech under the theme “Thailand’s International Development Cooperation and Biodiversity” at the Finance for Biodiversity Forum, where TICA also joined to support the Fin4Bio Joint Recommendation to promote sustainable use of biodiversity in financial and business sectors. The Forum was organized by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) in collaboration with the Office of the Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning (ONEP), the Thailand Environment Institute (TEI), and Blue Renaissance Co., Ltd. (BR). The Forum, aiming to foster discussion on financial mechanisms to support biodiversity conservation, was also part of the 3-Year Work Plan (2023-2025) for the Cooperation Program between TICA and AFD.
In her speech, the Deputy Director-General of TICA addressed global challenges that undermine biodiversity, which in turn also affects the efforts to achieve SDGs. She also shares TICA’s role in promoting international development cooperation to support human security in four aspects namely food, health, jobs, and energy & environment, and embracing with the application of the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP) and Bio-Circular-Green Economy Model (BCG) in international development cooperation. Many of TICA’s development projects implemented in other developing countries, particularly those focusing on sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural techniques, natural resource management and conservation, should also be highlighted for their contributions to the promotion and conservation of biodiversity.
