During 2 – 4 March 2026, Lt. Sorawud Preededilok, Senior Advisor to Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), led a Thai delegation comprising officials from TICA, the Royal Thai Embassy in Dakar, and experts in rice cultivation, agricultural machinery, and the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP) on a visit to the Republic of Mozambique. The visit aimed to survey project sites and assess the potential and readiness of research centers for establishing agricultural learning and demonstration farms under a pilot project on sustainable agricultural technology development in Mozambique, particularly in Chokwe and Boane.
During the visit, the Thai delegation held discussions with Ambassador Faruque Omar Faquirá, Deputy Director of the Directorate for Asia and Oceania, Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Mozambique; H.E. Acubar Baptista, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries; and representatives from the Mozambique Institute of Agricultural Research (IIAM). Both sides agreed to build upon the outcomes of previous Political Consultations and advance cooperation under the framework of South–South Cooperation and the Thailand–Africa Initiative, focusing on food security, sustainable agriculture, and human resource development. The Mozambican side will further consider the proposed pilot project with relevant agencies and also suggested additional areas of cooperation, including coconut disease management, fodder crop production, and fisheries. They also expressed readiness to coordinate the relocation of agricultural machinery previously provided by Thailand in Tuan, Gaza Province, for using in the project to maximize its benefits.
In addition, the Thai delegation discussed with Mr. Otsuka Kazuk, Chief Representative of JICA Mozambique, the possibility of jointly organizing training programs on rice production development for Mozambique and other African countries. The Thai side also presented the pilot project plans in Chokwe and Boane, to which JICA Mozambique expressed interest in collaborating and will further consult with JICA Thailand to explore potential cooperation.
