On 13 September 2022, Mr. Wattanawit Gajaseni, Deputy Director – General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), gave the opening remarks for the side event under the theme "TRIANGULAR CO-OPERATION: A MODALITY FOR THE ASIAN CENTURY" organized by the Global Partnership Initiative (GPI) on Effective Triangular Cooperation, Fund for Triangular Cooperation with Asia, and German International Cooperation Agency as part of the Global South-South Cooperation Expo 2022 (GSSD Expo 2022) co-hosted by Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), and United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) at the United Nations Convention Center, Bangkok.

The panel emphasized the importance of trilateral cooperation (TrC) in the context of South-South Cooperation (SSC). This modality is an important mechanism for consolidation of experience, expertise, resources, and funding from both developing and developed countries, especially traditional donors, in order to promote sustainable development in other developing countries. Triangular Cooperation is especially relevant in Asia where many developing countries have reached a higher level of economic and social development, and gradually shifting their role from receiving countries to emerging partner and donor for development assistance. Triangular Cooperation would, therefore, promote sharing of experiences, transfer of knowledge and development solutions among developing countries through cooperation with and support of developed countries.
