Sufficiency Economy
Background and Rational
Sufficiency Economy is the philosophy of human beings way of lifes, originated by HM the King Bhumiphol of Thailand. From his experiences in closed up with “development” more than 60 years, he has suggested to develop in holistic approach with consider the present to future, with occupation to life style and with individual to community.
Sufficiency Economy can do in everyman and everywhere. The Principle are comprises of moderation, reasonable and self immunity. Using knowledge and technology with carefully by ethnics can make Sufficiency Economy successful.
Thailand has experienced with economy crisis in 1980. The agricultural sector protect the damage of the country by Sufficiency Economy. Every Sector were self reflect and go on understanding the philosophy of Sufficiency Economy. This is the unvaluable of Thais to carry on. Sufficiency Economy not only to help individuals but could make strong community and socials, not only from present but also in the future.
Thailand is one country of the member of world community. The dynamic community that effect in each other. Understanding the lesson from experiences of world community will make the global better and peacefully.
Most of the development of Thailand has been due mainly to the initiatives of His Majesty the King of Thailand who proudly named as “Working King” besides the commitment of government in effecting gradual changes in the lives of the population. Sufficiency Economy is one of the philosophy of H.M. that can do perfectly in everywhere by everyman.
Sufficiency Economy is basically a smart management of human being, which serve as his potential, leading to sustainable development. The Principle comprises of moderation, reasonableness and self immunity. Using knowledge and technology with caring by ethnics can make Sufficiency Economy successfully.

Qualifications
This is an intermediate level programme on rural development project/programme management. The course is required for middle level government officials and managers of state-owned agencies who are involved inpoverty alleviation and sustainable social and economic development. The participant should be/have:
a senior or middle-level government official or senior managers/executives of state-owned agencies or academics, practitioners or those preparing for managerial jobs in the near future;
an educational background in agriculture, economics, rural development, social, environment and public policy or other relevant disciplinary areas with five (5) years of related work experience;
committed to the good of the general public in enhancing economic and development;
functional level of written and spoken English;
in good health to be able to attend the whole course.
Objectives
This 16 days course aims to provide knowledge and experiences for participants who will be able to :
understand the concept of Sufficiency Economy
Explain Thai experience in agricultural extension methodology for small farmer development
share the knowledge and experiences in farmer development and life long learning center management

Study visit at H.M. the King projects in Bangkok, Chonburi and Phetchaburi and small farmer development project at Samutprakan.
a. Country report:
All participants are requested to prepare a 10 minutes country report. The report should contain one study of small holder farmer development project. The detail should focus on background of the project and key success or negative factors. Participants are permitted to prepare power point slides, video tapes or other audio – visual aids to support their country report presentation. The report should be sent to the ETO two weeks prior to the beginning of the course.
b. Media presentation: All participants are requested to present a report by groups in 30 minutes each.
