On 24 March 2016 in Vientiane Mrs. Sasitorn Wongweerachotkit, Director of International Organizations Branch (Multilateral) delivered address remarks on the opening ceremony of the Workshop on Needs Assessment Results and Curriculum Development in Midwife Education under Trilateral Cooperation of Thailand – UNFPA - Lao PDR. The opening ceremony was jointly presided over by Dr. Somchanh Xaysida, Acting Director-General of the Department of Training and Research, Ministry of Health of Lao PDR and Ms. Pafoualee Leechuefoung, Assistant Representative, UNFPA in Lao PDR. The workshop’s objective is to review feedback and inputs from the relevant public health agencies and institutes in Lao PDR so as to develop teaching manuals for Midwife Trainers of Training  and Preceptors for the four-month and six-month training courses on Midwifery which will be conducted at Khon Kaen University commencing in June 2016. In addition, the Needs Assessment Workshop is led by lecturers from the Faculty of Nursing, Khon Kaen University, and also participated by TICA officials and UNFPA/ Thailand and UNFPA/ Lao PDR. It was a productive workshop, the outcome of which will make good contribution to the midwifery and health of Laos.
