On 5 June 2024, Mrs. Arunee Hiam, Deputy Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) had a meeting with Dr. Surus Tangpaitoon. Director of Industrial Development Division, Electrical and Electronics Institute (EEI), to discuss technical cooperation on electronic waste management with Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in 2025 as well as future collaboration under the Mekong-Republic of Korea Cooperation (Mekong-ROK) framework.

Director of Industrial Development Division highlighted the significance of electronic waste management to prevent environmental impacts. As such, EEI would like to extend its collaboration with various potential development partners, particularly Japan, China, and South Korea, both at bilateral level and sub-regional level through various Mekong cooperation frameworks. Recently, EEI has submitted a proposal, in form of ‘the Co-forming Project, entitled "Eco-friendly Design and Refrigerant Processing Capacity Building Project for Carbon Reduction in ASEAN" for KOICA’s consideration to be implemented in 2025, with its main purpose of gaining experiences and best practices from the Korean industry to enhance the capacity of the Thai industry in managing electronic waste, particularly refrigerant chemicals.

In this regard, Deputy Director-General of TICA welcomed EEI's initiative and reaffirmed TICA’s readiness to support such cooperation, which will promote sustainable and environmental-friendly electronics industries in Thailand and ASEAN.
