On 8 July 2025, Mrs. Pimwadee Sowarattanapong, Deputy Director-General, Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), jointly presided over the opening ceremony for the Learning Center for Sustainable Development in Agriculture based on the Application of Sufficiency Economy Philosophy at the Integrated Vocational Education and Technical School Xayaburi, together with Mr. Phetpichai Sumwilai, Deputy Governor of Xayaburi Province, and also had planted trees as an official opening of the learning center, together with Mr. Pravej Varanggul, Director of Northern Institute of Vocational Education in Agriculture, Mr. Vilayphone Phommahasai, Director-General of the Department of Vocational Education, Ministry of Education and Sports, Lao PDR, Mr. Soukhasavanh Chanaphay, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Asia-Pacific and Africa, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lao PDR, Mr. Intee Chanpraserther, Head of the Education and Sports Department of Xayaburi Province, representatives from the Royal Thai Embassy in Vientiane and the Embassy of Laos in Thailand, including the Thai and Laos officials. Furthermore, visited to booths showcasing products from the project’s activities and the various learning stations to get briefing on the implementation progress of learning stations from students and teachers.
Additionally, both sides attended the Project Steering Committee (PSC) for the Development Project on the establishment of the Learning Center for Sustainable Agriculture based on the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy at the Integrated Vocational Education and Technical School Xayaburi. The significant outcomes of the meeting reviewed the progress of the project and discussed plans for the project's future implementation after its official handover.
The purpose of the learning center project is to develop the Integrated Vocational Education and Technical School Xayaburi, into a learning hub for the local community on sustainable integrated agriculture based on the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy. TICA and Northern Institute of Vocational Education in Agriculture and the Office of the Vocational Education Commission have supported the establishment of the Learning Center, with the implementation period of 4 years (2022 to 2025). The project includes four main components: (1) the establishment of the learning center (construction and development of learning stations) consisting of 17 learning stations, (2) the capacity building of personnel in clean agriculture through training programs for school administrators, teachers, and students, (3) the development of the school as a local learning resource hub, and (4) the monitoring and evaluation of the project. The establishment of the learning center has received strong support from the Government of the Lao PDR, and the Xayaburi Province, ensuring its continued operation and sustainability in the future.
