On 9 March 2023, Mrs. Ureerat Chareontoh, Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) welcomed Mrs. Gita Sabharwal, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Thailand, who led a delegation of representatives of UN Agencies, including World Health Organisation (WHO), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and International Trade Centre (ITC) to pay a courtesy visit, and discuss development cooperation between each other. In attendance at the meeting at TICA were Ms. Chidchanok Malayawong, Director of Human Resources Development Cooperation Division (Acting Director of Development Promotion and Coordination Division), and relevant TICA officials.
Both sides discussed ways to foster development cooperation through the South-South and triangular cooperation in accordance with the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for Thailand and the UN 2022 -2026. The UN side has proposed to build on existing cooperation in 3 projects, aiming at the transfer of knowledge from Thailand to neighboring countries and other Asian countries, namely: (1) Global Health Diplomacy by WHO; (2) Projects on Midwifery, Maternal Care, and Teenage Pregnancy Prevention by UNFPA; and (3) ARISE Plus Thailand: Trilateral Cooperation on Sharing Knowledge and Best Practices in Organic Agriculture with ASEAN Member States by ITC.
Furthermore, both sides also discussed the secondment of TICA officials in the position of Special Assistant to the Resident Coordinator to facilitate development cooperation and South-South and triangular cooperation between the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office, the Royal Thai Government, and other development partners.
