On 26 May 2026 , Mr. Chulvat Narinthrangura, Director-General of the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), welcomed and held a discussion with Mr. Yoneda Gen, Director General of the Southeast Asia and Pacific Department, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and his delegation during their visit to Thailand.

On this occasion, Mr. Yoneda Gen expressed JICA’s appreciation to TICA for the excellent cooperation between the two agencies, particularly the dispatch of the Friends from Thailand (FFT) volunteers to Japan. He also reaffirmed Japan’s support for Thailand’s accession to the OECD and the OECD-DAC. Furthermore, He expressed JICA’s readiness to cooperate with Thailand in organizing the Round Table Meeting among development partner countries from ASEAN and Japan as an affiliated programme to the 2026 IMF-World Bank Group Annual Meetings on 9 October 2026 in Bangkok.

In addition, both sides discussed approaches to supporting skills development for displaced persons along Thailand’s border areas, as well as expanding the Thailand–Japan partnership to provide development cooperation to other regions, including South Asia, the Pacific Islands, and Africa. The Japanese side also shared its experience in implementing development cooperation projects in Africa, particularly in the area of risk management, which will be highly beneficial for planning future cooperation activities under the Thailand–Africa Initiative (TAI).
