On 7 February 2025, Mrs. Pimwadee Sovaratanapong, Deputy Director-General of the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), attended the opening ceremony of the Third Country Training Programme (TCTP) on Modernization of Power Distribution System in ASEAN Countries at the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (Head office). In this regard, Mr. Kazuya Suzuki,Chief Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Thailand Office, and Mr. Wilas Chaloeysat, Governor of the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), jointly delivered opening remarks for the training programme as representatives of the organizing institutions.
The programme will be held from 3 to 21 February 2025, with 25 participants from five countries, namely, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Thailand. On this occasion,
the Deputy Director-General extended a warm welcome to the participants and expressed gratitude to JICA and MEA for jointly organizing this course, which aims to transfer knowledge on modernizing power transmission and distribution systems. This includes fundamental principles such as planning, design, and loss reduction, as well as the application of modern technologies, including Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Distributed Energy Resources (DERs). This programme is also expected to contribute to regional energy security and sustainability through the exchange of experiences and cultures among participants.
