On 25 August 2025, H.E. Ms. Sasirit Tangulrat, Director-General of the Department of South Asia, Middle East and African Affairs, together with Lieutenant Sorawud Preededilok, Minister attached to Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), the Honorary Consul of Thailand to Botswana, and relevant officials, visited the Republic of Botswana to promote bilateral and regional cooperation, particularly in the area of development.
During the visit, H.E. Ms. Sasirit had a discussion with Mrs. Emolemo Morake, Director of the Department of Asia and the Pacific, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Botswana. Both sides expressed interest in deepening cooperation across multiple sectors. In this occasion, Lt. Sorawud also presented Thailand’s role as a development partner and areas of potential cooperation, including public health, food security and climate change. The Botswanan side expressed strong interest in pursuing cooperation in the suggested areas as they are aligned with their national priorities and proposed other areas such as tourism, clean energy, and trade and investment. Both sides agreed to further enhance development partnerships in the areas of mutual interests.
In addition, the Thai delegation met with representatives from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to underscore Thailand’s commitment to development cooperation with the African region and to explore joint work plans in mutually beneficial sectors. Both sides agreed to consider potential pilot projects that could be scaled up to the regional level. Thailand also proposed exploring trilateral cooperation involving Thailand-SADC, and other development partners that could further expand regional cooperation.
At the end of the visit, H.E. Ms. Sasirit and Lt. Sorawud had the opportunity to discuss with Mr. Ishmael Takaedza Nshakazhogwe, Honorary Consul of Thailand to Botswana, and Maj. Gen. Gotsileene Morake, former Ambassador of Botswana to Thailand, to explore opportunities to strengthen Thai-Botswana cooperation in the future.
