From 22 August to 1 September 2025, H.E. Mr. Russ Jalichandra, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, together with H.E. Ms. Sasirit Tangulrat, Director-General of the Department of South Asia, Middle East, and African Affairs, and Lieutenant Sorawud Preededilok, Minister attached to the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), led a delegation of Thai officials and agricultural experts to the Republic of Mozambique to enhance cooperation in various sectors, including development cooperation. Key activities included:
(1) TICA, in collaboration with the Royal Thai Embassy in Maputo, participated in the Maputo International Trade Fair (FACIM 2025) from 25 to 31 August 2025 to present Thailand’s contributions to development cooperation in Africa, particularly in Mozambique, which is received notable interest from attendees.
(2) On 27 August 2025, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Thailand and H.E. Mrs. Maria de Fátima Simão Manso, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Mozambican Communities Abroad, co-chaired the 1st Thailand – Mozambique Political Consultations, strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation in areas of mutual benefits. Both sides expressed readiness to expand development cooperation through both bilateral and multilateral frameworks, particularly in agriculture and human resource development.
(3) On 28 August 2025, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Thailand met with H.E. Mr. Roberto Mito Albino, Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries of Mozambique. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to advancing agricultural cooperation through expert engagement, high-level visits, and strengthened public-private collaboration, including the potential establishment of a Thai-Mozambique Business Forum.
On the same day, Lt. Sorawud led the delegation in a meeting with the Institute of Agricultural Research of Mozambique (IIAM) to exchange views on agricultural development cooperation, including rice breeding, agricultural mechanization, and human resource development. Later at night, TICA organized the “TICA Alumni Gathering in Maputo 2025” as a platform to strengthen the network among Mozambican recipients of TICA scholarships.
(4) On 29 August 2025, Lt. Sorawud and the delegation met with Mr. Otsuka Kazakis, Residence Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Mozambique to discuss areas of further collaboration, including the ongoing TICA-JICA trilateral cooperation, the Third Country Training Programme (TCTP) for CARD countries, and research grants for Mozambican alumni to support sustainable agricultural development.
Moreover, the delegation held discussions with representatives from Eduardo Mondlane University, to explore technical cooperation and knowledge-sharing between Thai and Mozambican experts. Both sides recognized the university’s capacity to disseminate knowledge to local farmers and expressed interest in formalizing institutional cooperation through an MOU.
Furthermore, the delegation visited the Centro Educativo Social y Laboral (CESAL) in Matutuíne, Maputo Province, to study the organization’s implementation practices within the local context and assess the challenges faced by smallholder farmers. The findings will guide the design of future cooperation projects tailored to the actual needs of local communities.
(5) On 30 August 2025, H.E. Mr. Sorajak Puranasamriddhi, Ambassador of Thailand to Mozambique, led the delegation to visit the Community Learning Centre and the Thailand-Mozambique Tilapia Breeding Centre located in Gaza Province. These visits aimed to gather insights to further improve development cooperation projects in pursuit of sustainable community development in Mozambique.
