On 22 July 2025, Mr. Chulvat Narinthrangura, Director-General of the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), co-chaired a meeting with Dr. Myat Wunna Soe, Director-General of Public Health, Ministry of Health of Myanmar, to follow up on the implementation of the Thailand-Myanmar Development Cooperation Programme on Health, in Tachileik, Republic of the Union of Myanmar. The meeting was also attended by Ms. Pimwadee Sovaratanapong, Deputy Director-General of TICA; Ms. Chachsaran Lertkiattiwong, Director of the International Development Cooperation Division; representatives from the Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon, the Department of East Asian Affairs, the Chiang Rai Provincial Public Health Office, Chiangrai Prachanukroh Hospital, Mae Sai Hospital, and relevant officials from TICA. The Myanmar side was represented by high-level representatives from the Department of Public Health, the Department of Medical Services, the Office of the Union Minister of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations (MIFER), the International Relations Division, the Foreign Economic Relations Division (FERD), the State Public Health Department in Kyaing Tong, Tachileik General Hospital, and Kyaing Tong General Hospital.
The objective of the aforementioned meeting was to follow up on the progress of the implementation of the Thailand-Myanmar Development Cooperation Programme on Health. During this constructive meeting, both sides recognized the importance of close collaboration to address communicable diseases, emerging diseases, and re-emerging diseases, particularly in the border areas between the two countries. Additionally, the representative from Myanmar’s Ministry of Health at the national level agreed to assign officials from Eastern Shan State (at the state level) to engage with representatives from the Chiang Rai Provincial Public Health Office, and for Tachileik Hospital (at the local level) to engage with Mae Sai Hospital, Chiang Rai Province, to facilitate the exchange of health-related information in border areas and explore further avenues for cooperation between the two sides.
During the meeting, the Myanmar side expressed gratitude to the Thai government for its assistance during the recent earthquake, including the deployment of medical teams and support personnel to the affected areas. Myanmar also briefed the Thai delegation on the public health situation in Eastern Shan State and shared their requests for international assistance in post-earthquake recovery efforts. At the conclusion of the meeting, the Myanmar side invited the Thai delegation on a visit to Tachileik Hospital to observe the work of the hospital’s medical personnel.
