On 17 September 2021, Mrs. Ureerat Charoentoh, Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as Head of Thai delegation, attended the first meeting of the Coordinating Committee on Smart and Sustainable ACMECS via video conference, chaired by Prof. Dr. Silinthone Sacklokham, Director-General of External Relations Department, Ministry of Education and Sports of Lao PDR.

The meeting discussed the projects and activities ACMECS members have implemented under ACMECS Master Plan Pillar 3, which consists of five sectors, namely human resource development, environment, sustainable agriculture, tourism, and public health.

 

The meeting also discussed ways forward and mechanisms for future cooperation. Thailand proposed nine new projects such as ACMECS scholarships, Bio-Circular-Green Economy (BCG) project, Strengthening of Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT) project in ACMECS countries, and Skill Development in Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Myanmar project. The objectives are to assist ACMECS member countries for post-COVID-19 sustainable economic recovery and to boost economic resilience in the sub-region.  Lao PDR also proposed seven new projects.

In addition, the meeting also recommended setting up criteria for ACMECS projects, and establishing technical working groups in five sectors to develop ACMECS projects under ACMECS Pillar 3.

All new proposed projects and recommendations will be submitted to ACMECS Senior Official Meeting for consideration.
