On 2 February 2024, H.E. Mr. Cherdkiat Atthakor, Ambassador of Thailand to Cambodia, witnessed the Handover Ceremony of the renovated building under the Project on the Development of Thai Language Teaching and Learning at the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP), during which Mr. Wattanawit Gajaseni, Deputy Director – General, Acting Director – General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), handed over the renovated building to Mr. Chet Chealy, Rector of RUPP.

The renovation of the Thai language building (Building B) aims to accommodate and facilitate the teaching of Thai courses for students of the Thai Language Department, RUPP. The purpose of this project is to develop RUPP’s capacity in providing Thai language education. This involves the development of comprehensive Thai language curricula for short-term courses, bachelor's and master's degree programs. Additionally, the project also focuses on training of qualified personnel and teachers, dispatching of experts and volunteers, and providing support for the renovation of building, the construction of the Thai Language building, and to enhance classroom facilities through the provision of modern and adequate teaching materials and equipments. Since 2015, the Royal Thai Government has been supporting the project by deploying experts and volunteers to assist the teaching of Thai language at the Foreign Language Institute of RUPP. To date, the university has successfully implemented short-term courses and bachelor's degree program, with ongoing efforts to develop a master's degree curriculum to sustain teaching and offer for those to further study at the advance level.
