On 1st December 2021, Mrs. Ureerat Chareontoh, Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), and Mr. Yuichi OBA, Deputy Chief of Mission and Minister (Economic Affairs) of the Embassy of Japan, jointly presided over the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) Handover Ceremony and the celebration of the 40th Anniversary of JOCV Programme in Thailand. Held at TICA’s Hall, Government Complex, the events were also attended by Mr. Takahiro MORITA, Chief Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Thailand.

At the ceremony, a group of seven JOCVs was handed over to the Thai partners. Six of them will serve in the Japanese Language Education and the Special Education areas at six educational institutions under the Office of the Basic Education Commission. Another one JOCV will serve in the Information Communication Technology area at the Thai-Nichi Institute of Technology. Their terms of assignment is two years,

JICA, in cooperation with TICA, launched the JOCV Programme in Thailand in 1981. Over the past 40 years, more than 1,000 JOCVs have been dispatched to work here. In addition to further strengthening the Thai-Japanese relationship, the Programme has greatly contributed to the development of Thailand in many aspects such as human resources development in industrial sectors, strengthening of local communities, environmental management, etc.
