On January 8, 2025, Mrs. Arunee Hiam, Deputy Director-General of the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, along with Ms. Chidchanok Malayawong, Director of Development Promotion and Coordination Division and TICA officials, attended an online bilateral meeting with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to discuss the OECD’s new strategy on development, at Meeting Room 5, TICA. The meeting was co-chaired by H.E. Mr. Sarun Charoensuwan, Ambassador of Thailand to France, and Mrs. Mary Beth Goodman, Deputy Secretary-General of the OECD, in Paris. Also present at the meeting were representatives from the relevant Thai agencies including the Department of International Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC).
This meeting provided a valuable platform for Thailand to share its perspectives and insights on development cooperation with the OECD as the organization embarks on the development of its new Development Strategy. Thailand emphasized the importance of fostering better policies and empowering emerging markets and developing economies to achieve inclusive and sustainable growth, aligning with the OECD's overarching objectives. In addition, Deputy Director-General Arunee provided information on the current development cooperation policy that emphasizes South-South and trilateral cooperation, achieving Sustainable Development Goal 17: Partnership for Development, and promoting human security in four areas: health, food, job, energy and environment. She also hoped that the OECD would support South-South cooperation more and exchange experiences on matters that would be beneficial to each other, such as cooperation with other sectors in implementing development cooperation, such as the private sector, and the OECD’s evaluation criteria.
