On 1 June 2022, Mrs. Ureerat Chareontoh, Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), met with Mr. Suriyan Vichitlekarn, Executive Director of Mekong Institute (MI). The meeting was also attended by Mrs. Charintip Yosthasan, Director of International Development Cooperation Division, and relevant TICA staff.

The TICA team took note of MI’s Strategic Plan, Core Programs, and Flagship Programs for human resources development in Mekong sub-region, briefed by Executive Director of MI. Then the Director-General of TICA and the Executive Director of MI discussed on how to further promote Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP) internationally and agreed that its practicality should be more emphasized. Moreover, both sides would explore the way to enhance trilateral cooperation with MASHAV (Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation) in the areas of Israel’s expertise and the needs of Thailand and Mekong sub-region.

On this occasion, the Director-General of TICA also invited MI to join the Global South-South Development (GSSD) Expo 2022 which is to be co-hosted by TICA, UNOSSC and UNESCAP between 12 – 14 September 2022 in Bangkok.

MI has long been an important ally of TICA and has cooperated with TICA in many projects, especially capacity building for partner countries. under Annual International Training Courses (AITC).  Recently, MI proposed BCG Model-related courses for the AITC Three-Year Plan (2023-2025).
