On 29 June 2023, Mrs. Ureerat Chareontoh, Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) met with Mr. Tero Raassina, Thailand Country Representative of the Global Green Growth Institue (GGGI).
Both sides informed each other of their priorities and expertises including TICA’s development cooperation priorities in areas such as food security, health, employment and environment. In addition, TICA had been designated as Thailand’s coordinating agency of ACMECS Pillar 3 (Smart and Sustainable ACMECS) under 2019-2023 ACMECS’s Master Plan. In the mean time, GGGI has been promoting, for example, Green Growth Policy Advisory, soft credit for biomass and biofuel business under the Global Climate Fund (GCF) and Blue Sky Project for air pollution control in the region, and working with various Thai agencies such as Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, BMA, Ministry of Finance, and Thai commercial banks. GGGI is in discussion with other development partners such as Luxembourg to develop an air pollution control project.
Both sides exchanged views on ways to work together in areas of mutual interest including promoting green growth and Bio-Circular-Green Economy Model, and addressing transboundary air pollution especially from biomass burning. Trilateral Cooperation with other development partners was also suggested.
Director-General Ureerat also invited the GGGI to attend the 8th TICA Connect with a topic “Enhancing International Development Cooperation for Sustainable Future”, and TICA’s works and cooperation with other development partner agencies will be showcased on 24 August 2023 at Vithes Samosorn, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
