On 25 September 2025, H.E. Mr. Paisan Rupanichkij, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, held meetings with Development Partners, namely (1) United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), (2) United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), (3) the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Thailand and KOICA, (4) the French Embassy in Thailand and AFD, and (5) the Embassy of Japan in Thailand and JICA. Also present at the meetings were Mr. Chulvat Narinthrangura, Director-General of the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), Mrs. Pimwadee Sovaratanapong, Deputy Director-General of TICA, Mrs. Chachsaran Lertkiattiwong, Director of the International Development Cooperation Division of TICA, as well as officials from the Department of International Organisations and TICA.
This round of small-group discussions with each development partner provided the Thai side with an opportunity to learn more about ongoing activities being carried out by the partners to deliver humanitarian assistance to vulnerable groups along the Thai-Myanmar border, in both the health and education sectors. The meetings also explored the possibility of undertaking joint projects to mitigate the impact of reduced global humanitarian assistance budgets and to address health and education challenges in the border areas, with the aim of ensuring that vulnerable groups are reached in a comprehensive manner. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will further discuss the details of these projects with the relevant development partners.
These meetings also provided an opportunity for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to coordinate efforts with development partners in Thailand, enabling a clearer understanding of the overall landscape of ongoing activities and allowing both sides to jointly identify possible initiatives in areas where no actor is currently engaged. Such cooperation demonstrates the strong commitment of the Royal Thai Government and its development partners to assist vulnerable groups along the Thai-Myanmar border.
