Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, in collaboration with the International Institute for Trade and Development (Public Organization), organized the Training Course on “Using the System to Impose Value Added Tax (VAT), was held from 24 – 28 March 2025. This course aimed to transfer knowledge, best practices, and share Thailand's experience in VAT operations to 15 participants from the Timor-Leste Tax Authority (TLTA), under the Ministry of Finance of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste.

This training marks a significant milestone in Timor-Leste’s journey toward strengthening its tax system and ensuring long-term fiscal sustainability.The implementation of a modern VAT system will not only enhance domestic revenue collection but also contribute to economic stability and growth.

Furthermore, this training is a crucial step in supporting Timor-Leste’s aspiration for WTO membership. A VAT system that aligns with global standards will enhance trade facilitation, improve investor confidence, and integrate Timor-Leste into the global economy. Thailand remains committed to supporting Timor-Leste in its capacity-building efforts and economic development initiatives.
